Word of the Month – Moraine: As a Glacier slowly creeps along its path, it scrapes rocks off the surrounding landscape. These rocks are left in huge heaps, often 20 ft. high, at the base of a glacier and are called Terminal Moraines.

Welcome to the month where I constantly had tree bits stuck in my hair. All the time. It only enhanced my vaguely Witch of the Wild aesthetic.

I have now pruned 5 of the wild apple trees on the land. Did I at any point know what I was doing? Not a clue. But I figure they’ve survived 50 years of bears climbing in them, breaking branches, and falling out (yes, really, our bears fall out of trees, it’s adorable) so what harm could I possibly do?

This was also the month that I got a job offer, yay! I’ll be moving to Alaska for six months in mid-April. Which means more adventures to come but it also means abandoning yet another garden in the pursuit of my accidental vagabond lifestyle. So that’s sad.

Now I’m planting flowers in the garden to entice my mother to come down and water it while I’m gone. The Pea Tent has become a Sweat Pea Tent, I put the seeds in the ground a few days ago. Time will tell if I’ll get to hide inside it before I leave.

Of course, before you can put things in the ground, you must be able to see the ground. That was a challenge this month as we had roughly a foot of snow. My garden beds were completely lost from sight.

The last of it has finally melted, we’re headed into spring, and I can’t wait to show you pictures of all the lovely wildflowers to come.
